Meet the team
Steve Fail
Senior Pastor
Steve joined the team at CB in 2020. A graduate of Carey Baptist College, he served for over twenty years in international missions. He is married to Lesley, with children Josh and Hanna, and enjoys excellent coffee.
Akang Ko
Associate Pastor, Chinese Community
Akang oversees the Chinese community ministry. After studying theology in Taiwan he moved to New Zealand in 2010. His professional background includes Hong Kong entertainment, and he speaks Mandarin, Cantonese, and English fluently. He is married to Xiaoou, with son Matthias. He also goes by Charles.
Nigel Webb
Discipleship and Equipping Pastor
Nigel returned to CB in 2022 after 27 years as mission partners of the church (mostly) in South America alongside his wife Richelle. He helps people grow in faith through Connect Group leadership and church-wide discipleship programmes. He and Richelle have two adult children.
Jeremy Watson
Youth Pastor
Jeremy joined the team with his wife, Bryony, in 2022. He loves working with young people and journeying alongside them as they discover who Jesus is, who they are, and what it means to follow him. Jeremy is a graduate of Carey Theological College and has been involved in youth ministry since 2017.
Bryony Large
Young Adults Pastor
Bryony joined the staff at CB in 2022 with her husband Jeremy. She completed Carey's pastoral programme and brings experience with young adults and church ministries. She enjoys football, movies, and escape rooms, and she manages the church newsletter.
Victoria Kitchen
Office Administrator
Victoria is the Office Administrator and a contact for general church enquiries.
Mel Luoni
Children and Families Pastor
Mel is the newest member of staff, but she has been a part of CB for most of her life. She joined in August 2025 after working at UCOL and Toyota NZ. She serves as Manawatu Regional Leader for Lifewalk and Launchpad. She is married to Dean, with adult sons Josiah and Isaac.
